Recently, I spoke at the Video Plus University 2013 conference, where I delivered the vision of Solavei to CEOs and senior executives of the top 100 direct sales companies in the world. The presentation was similar to the one I give during our Solavei Socials, but I wanted to share additional details form the presentation.

The creation of a Social Commerce Revolution.

Solavei was created to fully capitalize on converging trends where consumer behavior gravitates toward saving money, being connected in a social environment, using a mobile phone for primary communication and sharing with those closest to you when you find something of quality and good value. Solavei offers consumers an alternative, a less expensive form of commerce that benefits individuals by moving the millions of dollars spent on traditional marketing and advertising to people. History has shown that in order to create a strong movement, you cannot settle for thousands, you must have millions. That is why Solavei strives to create real positive change in millions of people’s lives across the country with something as simple as mobile service.

We have created a low barrier to entry with Solavei, just $49/month for unlimited mobile service and no membership fee. We want to focus on the consumers who share with other consumers. This is a consumer-to-consumer relationship, not business-to-business.

Of our members, 90% do not have experience in direct selling, yet over 35% of them have enrolled someone. That’s because Solavei is about sharing, not selling, and has made it easy by creating a platform that empowers its members to share Solavei through the social networks they’re already connected to. It comes naturally to members and we make it easy for them to tell their friends.

Mobile service is our first offer. From here we will expand and continue to make everyday commerce less expensive, and even profitable for members of Solavei. We can do this because we do not spend our money on advertising but instead on the best advertisers in the world, people!

“A single relationship can change the lives of many.” I keep this in mind when I am considering a new commitment. I consider this while I take time for the board of Miss America, an organization that makes available 45 million dollars in college scholarships each year to bright young women. I consider this when I spend time with my four boys and my wife and I had this specifically in mind when I started Solavei.

I believe our time and work should be aligned with efforts to better our community, whether our community is our family, our city, our country or our world. I have personally found my experiences digging wells for water in Central Africa a deeply impactful experience. My wife continues to amaze me with her dedication to giving back and together we have worked to build this value into our son’s lives as well.

It is not only important to live a life where we work to build relationships that will change the lives of many but it is also important to live a life that will inspire others to live this way as well. Pass along not only your positive impact, but pass along your gift to have a positive impact.

There are life changing moments, life changing experiences and life changing encounters… my time visiting Pigmy villages in the Congo was all of the above. It’s experiences the one I had in the Congo that have the most lasting impact on our lives.

ICDI is a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating persistent poverty by providing sustainable solutions to the problems faced by impoverished people. It was through ICDI that I first visited the Central African Republic and Pigmy villages
near the edge of the Congo.

We helped dig community wells so the people there could get clean water.

No one should have to watch their child die from preventable water borne diseases. ICDI helps communities begin to break the cycle of sickness and poverty by providing access to clean water.

We met members of the community whose lives would be forever changed by something that we take for granted every day – water. I will carry their smiles, gratitude and resilience with me for the rest of my life.

ICDI partners with Vision Trust to provide Orphan care services. Their orphan care services include medical checkups, nutritional checkups, support training for the family that’s caring for the orphan, as well as Biblical lessons, and optional vocational training in sewing and woodworking.

The experience forever changed me when I saw the impact that such assistance could provide to a group of some of the poorest people in the world.

In 2008, on the morning of my first Boston Marathon, I met Sharon Lisnow. Her son, Michael, was born prematurely, developed cerebral palsy and died at the age of 10. One year later, the Respite Center was born.

Sharon introduced me to the Respite Center’s mission to provide emotional and physical support for individuals with disabilities and their families. I knew on the spot that I had to be involved.
